Salvation Mountain near the Salton Sea

For nearly 40 years, Leonard Knight has been creating “Salvation Mountain”. Arriving from the east in the late 60’s, his car broke down outside of Slab City, an infamous off the grid community squat, attracting both outlaws and in-laws equally.

Once settled, Leonard built his temple to Jesus. His message is overtly bibical (duh) but even for a couple of bible-less individuals, skirting the great astral plain, Leonard’s message of LOVE, of loving, of not being afraid to show your love for one another, is one that will continue to resonate long after salvation mountain is reclaimed by the Salton Sea.

Advanced in age,  our interview with Leonard was mostly him repeating the mantra, of love and loving one another.  We feel fortunate to have spent a few moment with him and his friend Mike.
